Project Management in Technical Services

Project Management in Technical Services will be an edited volume focused on the adoption and implementation of project management within technical services. The scope of the project covers two primary perspectives: (1) implementation of project management within technical services units; and (2) specific case studies on topical areas such as ILS migrations, Scholarly Communications, Digitization, equity, diversity, and inclusion, or workflow analysis.

We are seeking chapter submissions covering any one or more of the topics listed below:

A.                Implementation Perspectives

This theme focuses on overviews of project management methodologies and how they can be implemented within technical services. As "implementation" can vary in its meaning, the section will be divided into two sections: Institution project management and Grassroots efforts. Chapters should focus on the project management process rather than a specific project.

Potential topics for chapters (instituting project management):

*         Portfolio management

*         Formalized project management implementation

*         Assessment

*         Resource allocation

*         Cross departmental workflows

    Potential topics for chapters (grassroot efforts)

*         Informal project management

*         Personal project management

* Generating buy-in for project management

* Project management for small projects

B.     Case Studies

This theme focuses on sharing the success and challenges of adopting a project management strategy. Chapters should focus on a particular project or initiative.

Potential topics for chapters:

*         System migration

*         Accessibility

*         Remote storage

*         Digitization

*         Metadata clean-up

*         Emerging trends

* Analysis of technical services space and/or workflows

* Balancing new projects with maintenance practices
