Greetings –
As many of you know, I’ve now been publishing CD HotList: New Releases for Libraries (http://cdhotlist.com) for just over 20 years. It started out as a homemade web page, minimalist and purely functional in design, and in subsequent years it was hosted on a couple of different platforms by different sponsors. Since 2012 it’s been a purely independent publication again, made available as a WordPress blog. It has always been freely available to all.
I’m about to experience a major job change: as of September 1, I’ll move to Brigham Young University, where I’ll be serving as University Librarian. This is going to require me to reduce some of my professional development and service activities, and CD HotList will be—at least partially—one of the things I have to cut back on.
I considered ending it altogether, but since I can hardly imagine a life that doesn’t involve writing about music, I’ve decided instead to try to keep CD HotList going on a much more limited basis. Instead of publishing 25 to 30 reviews per monthly issue, I’m going to try publishing ten: two releases per genre per month. If that turns out to be sustainable, then I don’t see any reason not to keep it going indefinitely.
In the meantime, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported CD HotList over the years by reading it, by buying the releases I recommend (thus encouraging labels to keep sending me review material), and by occasionally sending me encouraging notes.
