*University of Michigan Press COVID 19 Response: Free Access to Scholarly
Ebooks*
In response to the request of the International Coalition of Library
Consortia
<https://icolc.net/statement/statement-global-covid-19-pandemic-and-its-impact-library-services-and-resources>
(ICOLC)
for “creative solutions that allows critical access to publisher content
for the research and public health communities,” University of Michigan
Press will make all content in the University of Michigan Press Ebook
Collection <https://www.press.umich.edu/librarians> (UMP EBC) free-to-read
for the remainder of the academic term.
Beginning on * Friday, March 20*, access restrictions will be removed for
all 1,150+ titles in the UMP EBC until the end of April 2020. The UMP EBC
contains the Press’s scholarly output published since 2012 as well as new
books and older titles as they are digitized.
Included in the Collection are over 200 titles used in student courses
and almost
300 award-winners <https://www.press.umich.edu/browse/awards>. Strengths
include political science and public (including health) policy, performing
arts, classical and medieval studies, American studies, and Area studies
(especially East Asian, African, and German studies).
The full announcement is available on the University of Michigan Press
website: https://blog.press.umich.edu/2020/03/ump-covid-19-free-access/
*Links and MARC Records*
More information about the collection is available on the UMP For
Librarians Page <https://www.press.umich.edu/librarians>, including CC0
MARC records. If you do not have the time to do the MARC records work,
linking to https://www.fulcrum.org/michigan is an apt solution as there
will not be any titles on UMP EBC that will not be included in the
"temporarily, free-to-read accessible" category.

DRM-free, downloadable, perpetual access, and other benefits remain
reserved for libraries that purchase the 2020 frontlist or any other annual
