It is 3 months until ALA Midwinter 2020 in Philadelphia!! The ALCTS Interest Group for Collection Development for the Practitioner is issuing a call for 2-3 presentations (15 min each) at the Midwinter Meeting on Sunday, January 26 from 2:30-3:30 (location to be announced) on the topic: Streaming Media and Unsustainable Cost Models: Impacts on Libraries.

There has been a groundswell of growing interest in libraries to expand their streaming video and media collections. Streaming video makes library materials available on any device whenever needed at any location, however institutional streaming presents potential challenges for libraries.
For example, there are a variety of acquisition models including one-time purchases, leasing for a defined period (usually accompanied by hosting fees), patron and demand driven models, as well as third party vendor or aggregator hosted streaming media models.
Realizing that there is no perfect solution for every library, we are seeking 2-3 "case studies" from all library sectors, public, academic, school libraries to showcase their experiences with library managed video streaming.
We want to know how your library and staff are scaling streaming video solutions related to topics such as,

* factoring in costs, evaluating cost per title and creating budget models

* responding to demands by users or faculty who want to assign videos/films

* becoming informed about video-specific licensing issues, determining whether short term or perpetual licenses, number of concurrent viewers, or those measured by use are preferred

*         considering platform options

* working out technical issues such as bandwidth

* addressing access issues for course content, viewing rights, special needs viewers, etc

* patron discovery of streamed content

*         complying with copyright

* determining what additional content needs streaming rights

*         other related issues
Interested? Please send proposals by November 15, 2019 to Julia Gelfand, jgelfand_at_uci.edu<mailto:jgelfand_at_uci.edu>.
We hope to notify presenters by December 1.

Proposals should include:

* 100-150 word abstract of presentation

* Contact information for author(s)/presenter(s) including title and institutional affiliation (all speakers will need to register and attend ALA MW 2020 and are responsible for incurring all expenses associated with attendancel)
Looking forward to your submission.
