The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for
the position of Associate Director for Collections and Research Services.
This administrator leads a division that engages with faculty, students,
and researchers across the full spectrum of teaching, learning, and
research, offering strong collections and in-depth collaboration on
disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics and on emerging tools and
technologies for research and scholarly communication in a changing
environment. Staff develop services, programs, events, and partnerships
that advance the university’s strengths, aspirations, and strategic goals;
enhance research productivity and competitiveness; support
interdisciplinary collaboration; and foster inclusivity.
Responsibilities:
The Associate Director for Collections and Research Services provides
vision and leadership for a comprehensive collections and research support
strategy, including the development, management, and preservation of the
Libraries’ working and special collections, and a growing portfolio of
collaborative research engagement services and public events. With
administrative responsibility for these essential intellectual assets and
endeavors in one of the nation’s most forward-thinking university
libraries, they lead in creating a cutting-edge environment that enables
faculty, students, and researchers to discover and create new knowledge and
develop multidisciplinary solutions to contemporary challenges.
This position oversees the allocation and management of the Libraries’
$11.5 million collections budget and guides the development and application
of analytical methods to assess and describe trends in collections
expenditures and use. They administer a range of library liaison and
outreach activities including consultation on research, visualization, data
analysis and management, and use of technology-rich spaces, along with
targeted instructional offerings focusing on research skills and relevant,
emerging technologies. The position works closely with library colleagues
in the Digital Library and Materials Management divisions and the Copyright
and Digital Scholarship Center, among others, in supporting and enabling
the full lifecycle of teaching, learning, and research. They collaborate
with Development staff in the identification and stewardship of current and
potential donors to the Libraries. The position initiates and develops
partnerships across the university that enhance research productivity and
support interdisciplinary collaboration, including with the Office of
Research and Innovation <https://research.ncsu.edu/> and the Graduate School
<https://grad.ncsu.edu/>, and they represent the Libraries in the Triangle
Research Libraries Network <https://www.trln.org/>, state and national
forums, and international initiatives such as HathiTrust
<https://www.hathitrust.org/>. As a member of the Libraries’ senior
administrative team, the Associate Director participates in library
planning, policy development, resource allocation, and personnel
management.
