The University of Arizona Libraries seek an innovative and collaborative
Senior Information Resources Officer (SIRO) to provide leadership in the
active management of the Libraries’ information resources in all formats with
a strong emphasis on digital access. This position, reporting to the Dean of
University Libraries, serves as the campus and Libraries’ lead strategist for
information resources and collections in a fluid scholarly communications
environment, managing our consortial memberships and vendor relations, and
representing the UA Libraries nationally in shared collections efforts.

The SIRO leads the Content & Collections (C&C) unit, a newly formed group of
three library faculty members and one staff member that is responsible for
active management of our information resources and the $14 million Information
Access budget that supports this essential component of the UA Libraries’
enterprise. C&C utilizes various forms of usage data, consortial
collaborations, knowledge of campus priorities, input from internal library
stakeholders, including liaison librarians, and input from UA academic units,
to strategically manage the discovery and delivery of a broad array of
information resources and services. C&C is also home to initiatives related to
open and affordable educational resources.

In addition to leading C&C, this position supervises the head of UA Libraries’
Delivery, Description, and Acquisitions (DDA) department, which encompasses
acquisitions, discovery, and delivery of information to support the UA’s
teaching, learning, and research needs.

Leading the C&C unit, the SIRO collaboratively establishes and communicates
priorities and procedures, seeks ways to improve services and achieve
efficiencies, and manages workflows in accordance with the Libraries’
strategic priorities. The SIRO also actively works across departmental lines
in an environment where collaboration, creative problem solving, user focus,
and a sense of humor are all highly valued.

In addition, the SIRO serves on the Libraries’ two administrative groups,
Deans Working Group and Cabinet. This is a continuing status track (equivalent
to tenure track), academic professional position. Candidates should have
sufficient professional experience, scholarship, and service to be hired at
the Associate or Full Librarian rank, with continuing status. Library faculty
members are members of the General Faculty of the University of Arizona and
are entitled to all accompanying rights and privileges granted by the
University and the Arizona Board of Regents. Retention and promotion are
earned through achievement of a record of excellence in position
effectiveness, scholarship, and service.
