Hello all - we used to treat TV series as a DVD in that they were cataloged the same as a regular feature film with the same call # and loan period (7 days). We keep TV series as one but long ago we used to separate each episode out in single DVD cases and part of the record. This was really hard for patrons to sync when/how they watched a season - they had to put a hold on each disc and hope disc 1 showed up before disc 7.

We decided about a year ago to pull the TV series out and make them their own item type with TV Series added to the call # and give them a 14 day loan. This helped up to track circ in TV series vs. lumping all DVD together. It also helped patron satisfaction since it is nearly impossible to view a full season of anything in 7 days.

Patrons really enjoy TV series and like them separate and especially with the 14 day loan.

Subject: [ALCTS-colldv] Packaging TV Shows on DVD

Hello, Library Land.

We would like to know how your library/system packages its TV shows on DVD.

* Do you have separate records/packaging for each disc in a season? Or...
* Do you package an entire season together? Or...
* Do you do something else?
* Do you like the way your library/system handles the packaging? If so, could you elaborate as to why? Or...
* Do you wish this was handled another way at your library/system? If so, could you elaborate as to why?
* Did you used to do it one way and switch to another? If so, could you elaborate as to the why, how, and results?
* Have your patrons made any comments (positive or negative) about their experience borrowing TV shows at your library/system?

Please excuse cross-postings - I am casting this net as wide as I can!

Thank you in advance,
Alex
