Dear colleagues,

I work at a mid-sized private university (around 9000 FTE) that is currently in a transition period between being a Carnegie regional university and an R3 institution. Over the past year or two we have noticed an uptick in the number of faculty requests for individual data sets. Our existing collection development policies do not support most of these requests, as we prioritize acquiring library materials that can be used by the campus at large, instead of benefiting a single individual or class.

But I'd love to hear how/if other similar institutions manage these requests coming from their faculty. If you have collection development policies, stories, or templates to communicate with faculty that you can share, I'd be grateful for anything that can help us shape the conversation.
