*Position Description.  *The Kelvin Smith Library (KSL) of Case Western
Reserve University (CWRU) seeks an imaginative, energized, inspiring,
perceptive, and collaborative individual to serve as the Associate Director
for Academic Engagement (ADAE).  The incumbent will provide intellectual
and strategic leadership for three core teams of the library: *Research
Services* (content management, research assistance, instruction on research
methods and strategies conducted in partnership with faculty, and academic
community engagement); *Acquisitions and Metadata Services* (acquiring and
describing content purchases, and e-resource management); and *Access and
Delivery*  *Services *(general service center, stack management, OhioLINK
and interlibrary loan document delivery).  The ADAE manages the
recruitment, appointment, program and staff evaluations, and budget
authority for these teams.  As a Leadership Team member, the ADAE
collaborates with academics and senior leaders on campus, and is a key
partner with the independent campus libraries.

The ADAE will: foster a culture among the teams that encourages innovation
and collaboration to shape the future of scholarly research; lead the teams
to review and identify effective work processes; ensure effective faculty
engagement and communication; oversee evidence-based content management;
prepare and manage annual reports and budgets; represent CWRU with partners
and external professional organizations;  prepare publications and deliver
presentations regionally, nationally and internationally.



*qualifications.  *Master’s degree in a relevant discipline required, with
an additional advanced degree desired. Desired qualifications include
evidence of a successful record of: exercising a high level of professional
judgment; longstanding leadership within the profession; contributions to a
climate supportive of diversity and the advancement of library and
university goals; the ability to synthesize and adapt general management
theories and practices; anticipating and planning for the design and
evaluation of services and programs.  Candidates should also demonstrate
the ability to conduct critical analysis and apply knowledge about:
scholarly research and communications; information technologies; learning
systems and strategies; information policy; intellectual property;
qualitative and quantitative research methods; effective communication
skills; and information discovery systems.  Other desired attributes
include: demonstrated effectiveness of in collaborative activities;
knowledge of major trends in research, learning theory, and instructional
methods, service assessment strategies; planning; budgeting; and, human
resource management.  A record of substantial professional contributions
through service in professional organizations, and scholarly contributions
through publications and presentations at the national or international
levels is highly desirable.

library of CWRU, and its services include the separately housed University
Archives, the Kulas Music Library, and the Astronomy Library.  KSL and the
other three professional school libraries within the University have
combined total holdings of 2.85 million volumes, and the library provides
technological services such as the online public catalog, circulation
system, and access to almost 500 databases and over 93,000 electronic
journals to the whole campus.
