The Coordinator for Scholarly Resources (Sciences and Engineering) supports Tulane faculty and students in the life and physical sciences, engineering, and public health. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Libraries, s/he coordinates science collection development activities; provides and promotes science and engineering-related workshops and other instructional support; meets with students, faculty, and researchers individually or in groups to provide timely, relevant sources of information; evaluates information needs; and plans, implements, and assesses Initiatives that support science faculty and students across campus. The Coordinator collaborates with counterparts in the humanities and social sciences to ensure a consistent approach to collection management. The Coordinator and his/her colleagues use a team approach to help the Library meet the challenges of collecting, managing, preserving, and providing access to scholarly resources and research data in an era of fast-evolving information needs and publishing models.

The Coordinators for Scholarly Resources individually are expected to develop expertise in emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in innovative library projects.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  *   Three or more years of collection development experience at the professional level including financial responsibility in an academic library
  *   Knowledge of emerging publishing models for scholarly resources in STEM subjects
  *   Experience with library research tools relevant to the sciences and engineering; related reference, and research consultation experience
  *   Strong interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills
  *   Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, technology professionals, and library colleagues
  *   Enthusiasm for an innovative and cooperative environment
  *   Experience designing, delivering, and assessing library instruction for science and engineering disciplines


Minimum Qualifications

  *   Three or more years of professional experience in an academic or research library


Minimum Education

  *   Bachelors or advanced degree in a relevant science field

  *   ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent


Preferred Qualifications

  *   Firm knowledge of the scholarly communications process (publishing, copyright, repositories)
  *   Experience assisting researchers with grant funding requirements calling for public access publishing of research reports and research data
  *   Experience with appropriate data services, research tools, and software
