Monographic Acquisitions Librarian

The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Monographic Acquisitions Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions, this position provides professional and supervisory skills related to monographic acquisitions processes of the Alkek Library and supervises the functions of the Monographic Acquisitions and Receiving Unit, applying professional knowledge of principles and procedures for the acquisitions of library materials. The Monographic Acquisitions Librarian also assists the Head of Acquisitions in the overall operation of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, supervise, monitor and evaluate the overall operation of the Monographic Acquisitions and Receiving Unit. Order non-serials materials, as needed, particularly streaming media, e-book packages, digital archives, and other complex or high-priority orders. Work with the Electronic Resources Librarian and the E-Resources Cataloger Library Specialist to ensure current and stable access to e-books and streaming one-time purchases. Generate fund balance reports and monitor target balances. Answer questions about balances. Build good relationships with and assess and evaluate materials vendors, comparing the vendors' different ordering systems, interfaces, and quality of their products. Coordinate the review and ordering of library research grant requests. Investigate new library resources, analyzes potential to improve research collections, and recommends innovative resources to Head of Acquisitions. Perform special projects as assigned. Engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State University's standards for promotion for professional librarians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Master's degree from an ALA accredited program; intermediate computer skills, including Excel; interpersonal skills; supervisory ability and training skills; ability to work effectively as a team member; strong oral and written communication skills; knowledge of collection development theory and trends.



Preferred:  Knowledge of the foreign and domestic publisher market and industry; basic knowledge of government or business purchasing processes; knowledge of cataloging rules; knowledge of acquisition module in an integrated library system such as Sierra.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian/ Curator Career Ladder. Available ranks include Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
