Following a year-long strategic and organizational planning process that coincided with retirements in several areas, the Boston College Libraries seek seek highly collaborative professionals to provide leadership and direction for newly configured and innovative services.

This position, reporting to the Head of Collection Development and Research, has the opportunity to provide research and instruction services, scholarly communications outreach, and collection development for designated subject areas in the Social Sciences (Political Science or Education) in a dynamically evolving research library. Responsibilities include building collections that support the research, teaching, curriculum, and educational needs of the faculty and students within assigned subject areas. Keeping faculty informed of new resources, research tools, and scholarly communication issues in a rapidly changing information landscape is a critically important responsibility, as well as developing effective teaching programs to enhance library instruction for the curriculum.
Boston College is a vital community where close working relationships across campus play an important part of its success. Library Liaisons collaborate with librarians and other campus agencies to develop outreach strategies and partnerships with faculty and students supporting digital research projects. Liaisons consult with faculty on their ongoing research and training needs and participate in faculty meetings, colloquia and task forces as appropriate.
Liaisons engage in vigorous outreach programs to the undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty in the assigned subject areas. Working closely with the Head of Scholarly Communication and Research, as well as with colleagues in Metadata, Resource Acquisition, the Burns Library of Rare Books and Special Collections, and Digital Scholarship Services, they explore opportunities to offer new services.
The current liaison structure provides for considerable flexibility, with the expectation that there is a high level of proactive interaction and initiatives between faculty, students and the librarian. The University Libraries are focused on developing greater integration with academic departments and ensuring that librarians are vital partners in the research process.

Requirements
ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science is required.
Master's degree in subject area or related area is preferred (Education or Political Science/Area Studies) Minimum two years of directly related experience. Senior Reference Librarian/Bibliographers require a minimum of five years of directly related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge/experience developing and managing research collections, and supporting scholarly communication and digital scholarship.
Superior oral and written communications skills, knowledge and experience with new technologies, and library instruction experience Working style that combines initiative, collaboration and leadership.
Occasional evening or weekend shifts or events.
