Director of Collections Position Posting
JMU Libraries & Educational Technologies seeks an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented professional to serve as Director of Collections.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for the development, management, promotion, and preservation of library collections and scholarly content. Articulates a user-centered, holistic collections vision to meet current and emerging information needs and new models of collection/content building and delivery.
Develops policies and procedures for the management and preservation of extensive digital and library-curated collections, as well as collections and special collections in four library facilities. Manages the Collections Department, which includes the Digital Collections, Collection Management, Special Collections, and Preservation units. Works closely with the Director of Acquisitions & Cataloging to form, articulate, and implement a shared collections vision. Collaborates with other LET departments to ensure access to collections, to build and manage digital collections, and to support emerging content development on campus, including library publishing and digital repository services.
Qualifications include ALA Accredited MLS required and minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in building and managing library collections and content preferred. Experience with current and emerging technologies and their application to knowledge management. Knowledge of collection management, academic scholarly content and publishing trends, preservation, archives and special collections, digital repository and publication platforms, and digitization best practices.
