Title:   What’s changing in library liaison roles & how do these changes
affect collections?



Panelists:



David Feinmark, Southern Connecticut State University

David Feinmark is the Acquisitions/Collection Development Librarian at the
Hilton C. Buley Library of Southern Connecticut State University.  In
addition to overseeing the general acquisitions and collection development
functions of the library he is also the liaison to the Department of
Library and Information Science. He has published and presented in the
areas of academic/public library cooperation, the use of ARL’s “Collection
Analysis Project”, and on budgeting for information resources. David has an
MS in Library Science from Simmons College as well as an MBA from Washburn
University.


Melanie Maksin, Yale University

Melanie Maksin is the Librarian for Political Science, International
Affairs, Public Policy, and Government Information at Yale University. She
is the liaison to the departments of Political Science and Global Affairs,
as well as the chair of the Yale University Library’s Reference,
Instruction, and Outreach Committee. She has published and presented on
topics related to government information instruction and constructivist
pedagogy in academic reference services. Melanie has a BA in History from
Swarthmore College, an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh, and will
begin her MA coursework in Higher and Postsecondary Education at Teachers
College, Columbia University this fall.


Sha Towers, Baylor University

Shā Towers is the Director of Liaison Services at the Baylor University
Libraries, where he leads a team of ten liaison librarians and twenty
public services staff members across five service points. He serves as the
liaison librarian to the departments of art and theatre. He previously
served as the music librarian and head of Baylor's Fine Arts Library for
nine years. He holds an MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin.  His
current collection development interests center around building an
extensive book arts teaching collection.  For more about what he’s up to

Moderator:  Michael Leach, Cabot Science Library, Harvard University


After a brief summary of the history of liaison programs in libraries, the
panelists will give an overview of models at their institutions.  Further
discussion topics with an open forum will include: developing best
practices; partnering and collaboration with various library and
non-library groups on campus; the changing liaison model; what new roles
are appearing for liaisons; how are the changes being developed and
managed; and what types of assessments and tools being put in place to
measure the success of these new programs.
