ALCTS webinar: From MARC to BIBFRAME: An Introduction
Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2015
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.
Description: This presentation provides an introduction to the
Bibliographic Framework (BIBFRAME), a model used for expressing and
connecting bibliographic data through the semantic web. Includes an
overview of linked data, examples of MARC metadata expressed as
BIBFRAME, and shows the possibilities of library linked data.
Learning outcomes:
To give participants:
1) an overview of BIBFRAME
2) insight into how their library data transforms into BIBFRAME
3) insight into possibilities of library linked data
Who should attend? Technical Services librarians and anyone interested
in exposing library data on the web.
Presenters:
Carolyn Hansenis Metadata Librarian at the University of Cincinnati,
where her responsibilities include the creation and management of
metadata for library materials and digital collections. She is a
certified digital archivist, co-chair of the ALCTS/LITA MARC Formats
Transition Interest Group, and holds an MLIS and an MA in history. She
has presented at international and national conferences about metadata
standards and best practices, automated metadata transformations,
authority control, and cataloging special formats.
Victoria Mueller is the Senior Information Architect and Systems
Librarian at Zepheira. LLC. In her role, she provides library data
expertise to promote raising the visibility of library assets on the
web. Victoria played a key role in the definition of the Bibliographic
Framework Initiative (BIBFRAME) in Zepheiras collaboration with The
Library of Congress on the effort to transition from MARC 21. She is
currently the co-chair of the ALA ALCTS MARC Formats Transition Interest
Group.Victoria has a degree in Art History from The Pennsylvania State
University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the
University of Pittsburgh.
