*Apologies in advance for multiple postings.* ALCTS webinar: Tailoring
Communications to Different Audiences

Part of the Working with Continuing Resources Webinar Series Date:
Monday, February 23, 2015

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time. Description: This webinar
focuses on the importance of communication for technical services
librarians and staff. In a single day, we may find ourselves negotiating
with vendors, requesting or providing tech support, explaining new
purchases to public services staff, defending budget requests to
administration, and advertising new services to patrons. Each of these
situations involves a different kind of communication. We will begin by
identifying all the people we might need to communicate with, and the
reasons for communication. With these various audiences and goals in
mind, we will look at tips and tricks for effectively communicating in
different scenarios. Learning outcomes: By the end of the session,
participants will be able to communicate more effectively with a variety
of audiences, including administrators, patrons, vendors, and other
librarians. Who should attend? Any technical services librarian or staff
member interested in improving their communication skills. Presenter:
Jennifer Williams is Electronic Resources & Collection Development
Librarian at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. A native of
Huntsville, Jennifer has worked in both public services and technical
services positions in both public and academic libraries, as well as a
stint with SirsiDynix. Her professional interests include methods of
improving communication, the history and future of publishing, and the
new digital landscapes effect on libraries. ***************** Single
