CDL: Collection Evaluation Statistics?

Hi Elizabeth (and other interested parties),
I know that not every library has the staff time to keep track of this,
but I know that many academic libraries also track in-house uses of
books. That is, when staff collect library materials left on tables,
reshelving carts, etc., they record what those items were before
reshelving them. This is more useful if you have a lot of resources that
are in high demand but do not normally actually get checked out in your
ILS/PAC--for example if students seem to make a lot of use of your
reference collection or the newest issues of your periodicals do not
circulate.
I know that you may not have this information available to you, but if
you have the opportunity to use it I would encourage you to take
advantage of it. I can tell you that past colleges and universities
where I have worked seem to have gotten a lot of use out of it.
Good luck!
