Thank you for explaining this issue so well, Marilyn.  I agree 
wholeheartedly.  Perhaps it would make sense for publishers to consider 
ebooks a reprint, rather than a new publication.  I'm sure the 
publishers are concerned about copyright registration for a new format, 
but maybe the copyright date could be listed within a context, such as 
(c) 2014 ebook reprint of 1st edition.
