*Position Summary:*
The University Libraries at Virginia Tech invites applications for the
position of Collection Management Librarian. This is a full-time,
12-month faculty level position, reviewed on an annual basis. The
Collection Management Librarian reports to the director of the Jean
Russell Quible Department of Collections and Technical Services. The
Collection Management Librarian will work with department leadership to
advance strategic initiatives for assessment, management, marketing, and
preserving library collections. The successful candidate will work
collaboratively with team leaders, subject liaison librarians, and
collection managers in consortia to develop policies and procedures for
managing collections.
Responsibilities:
- Helps establish priorities and strategies for analyzing and assessing
print, microform, and digital library collections.
- Manages the University Libraries' participation in regional and state
collaborative collections initiatives, such as ASERL Scholars Trust and
Virtual Library of Virginia.
- Keeps abreast of developments in electronic resources management,
including acquisition, preservation, and licensing.
- Works creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both independently
and as a team member at various levels within the library and the
university.
- Provides liaison support to a department within the College of Liberal
Arts and Human Sciences.
*Required Qualifications:*
- ALA accredited or equivalent advanced degree
- Evidence of experience using research-level library resources
- Experience with library catalogs, databases, and search tools
- Excellent communication skills, analytical thinking, and initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented, and
dynamic environment
- Knowledge of collection management practices, academic scholarly
publishing and preservation issues
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and Access or other
database program
*Preferred Qualifications:*
- Research experience or advanced degree in an academic subject
- Experience with statistical analysis
- Basic scripting knowledge in Python, PHP, or other language
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc.'s Millennium or Sierra
- Familiarity with Google apps
