Print newspapers-cancel
From: "Nichols, Jane" <Jane.Nichols_at_oregonstate.edu>
Hi all,
My library is slowly focusing in on the print newspaper area for
re-purposing and with that in mind, I am thinking about canceling what
we have left of our print newspaper subscriptions and keeping just a few
of the major ones which are kept at our circ desk.
Has anyone already taken the plunge? Am I the last to do so? ;)
Thanks—I’m happy to share summarized responses if folks reply directly
to me.

CDL: Print newspapers-cancel?
From: Jennifer Boettcher <boettcher_at_georgetown.edu>
We purged a lot a couple of years ago. Keeping the majors (Wash Post,
NYT, LT, WSJ, FT) and local (Wash Business Journal). Most of what we
dropped were international. Key was that the title had to be full image
in an eresource. I really like Press Display.

At one time Appalachian State subscribed to most of the 'hometown'
newspapers in the
state, plus the so-called national and regional papers of record. These
would be the
NYT, WSJ, Washington Post, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles,
others. Additionally,
we subscribed to the major UK and European and a few Chinese papers
trying to capture both the
left and right wing papers where those existed. In recent years most of
these papers are untouched
for weeks or months as student and faculty habits moved away from the
paper newspaper.
We are systematically eliminating most of these other than a few
national papers and the major
state papers.
