ALCTS Webinar: Negotiation of E-Resource Licensing & Pricing Terms
Wednesday, May 7 , 2014
All webinar sessions are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, 12
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.
Description
Electronic resources have more complexity in license agreements and pricing
terms than other library materials, and librarians must be assertive in
negotiating for these resources in this time of budget cuts and uncertainty. The
librarian who accepts prices and terms as they are given is not getting the best
possible deal for the library. Vendors are often more willing to negotiate than
the librarian might expect. In this presentation, we will discuss successful
negotiation strategies for pricing and terms of library e-resources.
Learning Outcomes
Attendees will come away from this webinar with new strategies for assertive and
balanced negotiation, and an awareness of possible pitfalls in the process.
Who Should Attend
Librarians or staff members who manage e-resource contracts and licenses on
behalf of a library.
Presenter
Abbie Brown is Head of Consortial Resources for the University of Missouri
System. She negotiates consortial e-resource licenses and contracts for a group
of Missouri academic libraries and manages the purchase of individual

acquisitions since 2006 and has presented on the topic of negotiation and vendor
