Collections Librarian/Archivist


The University of Dayton Libraries seek a collections 
librarian/archivist to perform a broad range of collection management 
duties, including special projects, managing collections in education, 
and representing the department on various committees, and to 
participate in the Libraries’ instruction program. The 
librarian/archivist will also have responsibility for the U.S. Catholic 
Special Collection, which preserves records of the

Catholic Church and Catholic life in the United States and supports the 
University’s doctoral program in Religious Studies. The 
librarian/archivist will be responsible for managing the print 
collection, processing archival materials, planning digitization 
projects, and providing reference service during the open hours for this 
collection. This is a tenure-track-faculty position with the rank of 
Assistant Professor, reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections and 
Operations.

Required qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an 
ALA-accredited
program, with advanced coursework in archives or special collections; 
knowledge of
current collection management practices; experience with archival 
descriptive standards
such as DACS and EAD; excellent written communication skills; evidence 
of ability to
meet University Libraries’ promotion and tenure standards in 
librarianship, research, and
service; commitment to the University’s Catholic and Marianist identity.

Preferred qualifications: Post-MLS experience in archives and/or 
collection management;
experience with archives management software such as Archivists’ 
Toolkit; knowledge of
American Catholic history; training or experience in preservation; 
teaching experience in a
library context; experience with digitization projects; demonstrated 
ability to work
effectively in a team environment and with diverse user communities; 
excellent oral
communication skills.
