Collection Development Librarian at Florida Atlantic University (Boca
Raton, FL)
FAU Libraries seeks a Collection Development Librarian to assist in the
selection and deselection of library materials, and assessment of the
Libraries collections.
Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, the Collection
Development Librarian will identify and recommend library resources that
support the universitys curricular, instructional, and research needs,
establish and maintain open communications with faculty in assigned
subject areas, and assist with the Libraries Gifts Program. The
incumbent will work collaboratively with staff from all library
departments and units including, but not limited to, Electronic
Resources, Technical Services, Reference, and Access Services.- Assists
the Head of Collection Development in selection, deselection, and
assessment of the Libraries' collections and users' needs in assigned
subject areas.
- Develops and maintains familiarity with the Library's main approval
plans and their coverage of subject responsibilities and, as
appropriate, recommends adjustments to the plans.
- Generates a series of weekly and monthly data reports that highlight
expenditures, inter-library loan requests, patron-driven acquisitions,
and submits monthly program reports and annual report highlighting major
activities.
- Develops expertise in and keeps current with resources available in
select subject areas and cultivates partnerships with academic
departments in order to better anticipate and serve their research and
curricular needs.
- Keeps current with publishing trends, with a specific focus on
publishers in fields of responsibility.
Assists with the Libraries' gifts program which may include reviewing
and processing incoming donations.
- Serves as an active member of the Electronic Resources Group which is
a team of librarians with subject responsibilities that reviews
databases, e-journal package renewals, and new electronic resource
products.
Contributes posts to the Libraries' blog, On & Off the Shelf.
Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent.
- Course work in, or direct experience with collection development
responsibilities.
- Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively and to
manage multiple projects.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
sufficient to engage with faculty, staff, and students in assigned
departments, as well as with colleagues from across the University.
