Director of Teaching, Learning and Research @ Smith College Libraries
Smith College Libraries seeks a dynamic, accomplished, and innovative
librarian to lead its newly formed Teaching, Learning, and Research
Group.
As leader of the Teaching, Learning and Research Group, the Director
provides vision, leadership, planning, and management to advance all
aspects of research services - including information literacy and
faculty liaison programs, collection development, learning
environments, outreach and assessment, and digital scholarship -
through strategic planning, user-centered services, best practices,
and robust technologies. The Director promotes open and active
communication across the group and fosters effective collaborations in
the Libraries, the College, and the Five Colleges consortium. The
Director engages directly with students and faculty to support
research, teaching, and learning.
Serving on the Library Leadership Team, the Director of Teaching,
Learning and Research works with fellow directors to realize the
mission and vision of the Libraries. The Director contributes to
library-wide strategic planning, policy development, assessment, and
resource management. The Director demonstrates leadership in and
commitment to the concepts and practices of a ?learning organization?
throughout the Libraries.
Qualifications
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or a foreign
equivalent; advanced degree or graduate work in a subject discipline
strongly desired; 5 years of progressively responsible experience in
planning, implementing, and managing reference/research services;
teaching experience, information literacy and collection development;
substantial supervisory and leadership experience; experience in
successfully leading and implementing change; strong understanding of
current issues, trends, and technologies; solid subject knowledge in a
liberal arts discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to speak
eloquently, write fluently, and command the attention and respect of
students and faculty. A capacity for strategic thinking at both a
systems level and a group level is vital. The Director must possess
the ability to apply critical, analytical and innovative thinking and
to successfully manage projects.
