Government Information/Data Librarian
Evans Library, Florida Institute of Technology
The Florida Institute of Technology seeks a highly motivated and creative
individual to join the Evans Library as Government Information/Data Librarian.
This is a full-time faculty position reporting to the Director of the Research
Collection. Major duties include: administering the Federal Depository Library
Program; selecting, curating, and promoting the government information
collection; and instructing the academic community and the congressional
district in the use of government information resources and data. The Government
Information/Data Librarian will also support the teaching, research, and data
management needs of students and faculty.
Additional duties:
• Serve as a resource specialist for intellectual property,
including patents, trademarks, and copyright.
• Assist faculty and students to evaluate and to support
researchers’ data practices, processes, technologies, data management, storage,
and retrieval practices including those required by funding agencies.
• Participate in the Information Advocates program as liaison
with an academic unit concerning available resources, services, and collection
development.
• Engage in general reference and instruction activities.
Minimum required qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
institution.
• Passionate commitment to building data and government
collections in libraries and to promoting their use through instruction and
other means.
• Professional experience working in a federal depository in
an academic, public, or research library.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication
skills, including the ability to teach and present in front of groups.
• Experience with diverse populations and the ability to work
in a collaborative environment.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
• Additional advanced degree or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Data management/analysis and documentation skills and
experience.
• Knowledge of the legal and administrative requirements of a
federal depository library.

The 65,000-square-foot John H. Evans Library and Learning Commons
(http://lib.fit.edu) houses the Library, the Applied Computing Center, the
Academic Support Center, and a teaching auditorium. In 1963, the Evans Library
was designated by our U. S. Representative to become the first and only
depository in Brevard County, and continues to be so today. As a selective
depository the collection is comprised of 225,000 physical documents, roughly
half in print and half in microfiche, and also contains 75,000 online documents.
The collection’s strengths include NASA, ERIC, Energy, EPA, Census, Patents and
Trademarks and other areas.
