*Job Summary*
The University of North Texas Libraries is aggressively undertaking
sound management of our collection growth to support teaching, learning,
and research. We seek a strong candidate for the position of "Collection
Development Liaison Librarian (CDLL)." Reporting to the Coordinator of
Collection Development, the CDLL librarian will create and implement
innovative approaches that ensure the collection needs of students and
faculty are provided within budget allowances. The CDLL librarian
provides fund oversight for the materials budget and works closely with
liaison librarians to provide guidance related to collections.
The CDLL analyzes academic instruction and research initiatives, and
coordinates with the Collection Assessment Librarian, faculty, and
liaison librarians to determine strengths and weaknesses of the
collections. Working with faculty and library liaisons, the CDLL
develops and implements collection development policies supporting
specific instructional needs. Associated with these collection
development responsibilities, the CDLL may provide specialized services.
This position reports to the Coordinator of Collection Development who
receives input from the Head of Research and Instructional Services into
the training plan, supervision and evaluation of this position.
*SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES*
·Engages in communication with faculty, librarians, and students that
will provide knowledge of academic and research programs sufficient to
ensure that collections support the curriculum and student research
·Works closely with Liaison librarians and Coordinator of Collection
Development to provide effective and consistent communications with
campus constituencies regarding the library's strategies and programs
for collection development and management
* Analyzes course offerings and be aware of major course changes and
new programs
* Supervises Collection Selection Unit which includes 2 librarians and
2 classified staff
* Provides leadership for selection of library resources in varied
formats including print, electronic, open access/born digital, and
media. Work closely with the faculty and library liaisons to select
subject resources
* Assesses faculty and student requests for materials. Assess the
appropriateness of requests in keeping with the collection
development policy. Resolves issues when items do not meet current
guidelines and policies
* Evaluates journals, book reviews, advertisements, and
publisher/vendor catalogs to keep abreast of current and historical
resources in subject areas
* Monitors approval profiles and recommend adjustments in consultation
with library liaisons and faculty representatives
* Provides fund oversight for the materials budget
* Supplies leadership and coordination for collections-related
projects and initiatives, including shifting collection focus from
print to electronic resources, and building distinctive collections
to support a research university
* Co-chairs library liaisons group with Head of Research and
Instructional Services
* In partnership with library liaisons, keeps faculty and students
informed about library collections
* Participates in the preparation of reports used for program reviews,
new program proposals, and accreditation reports
* Develops collection development policies in consultation with the
Coordinator of Collection Development, liaison librarians, and the
faculty
* Collaborates with the Preservation Librarian to assess the quality
and physical condition of collections, making decisions for
replacement, transfer, withdrawal, or preservation of individual titles

participate in scholarly, professional, and services activities that

*Minimum Qualifications*
* ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science
* Some academic library experience
* Knowledge and understanding of 21st century collections issues for
research libraries, emerging practices, standards, and trends
relating to collection development and management in an academic or
research library environment
* Evidence of participation in professional organizations appropriate
to the level of appointment
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
*Preferred Qualifications*
·One year of collection development experience in developing print and
electronic collections, academic setting preferred
·One year of supervisory experience of librarians and staff, academic
setting preferred.
* Ability to balance varied responsibilities
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse
colleagues in an academic setting
* Demonstrated leadership skills
* Demonstrated ability to adjust priorities, manage time wisely, and
make quick effective decisions in a fast-paced environment
* Demonstrated contribution to the profession through scholarly
publications and/or presentations
* Familiarity with III Millennium automation system
* Experience with creation and maintenance of materials budgets
