CD policy and Hathi Trust books?
From:
Emily Stambaugh <Emily.Stambaugh_at_ucop.edu>
Brian, colleagues,
The University of California Libraries have adopted a policy for replacement of persistent resources held in our shared repositories as well as shared print resources held in place at campus libraries. The policy takes a FRBR approach, which includes, after the exhaustion of attempts to replace with various forms of physical copies, the ability to replace with a reformatted copy (e.g. a digital surrogate in Hathi.)
See
http://libraries.universityofcalifornia.edu/groups/files/cdc/docs/Persistence_Guidelines_for_Replacement_111811.pdf
The replacement guidelines on page 3 define "reasonable effort" and Appendix B provides examples.
Other shared print policies can be found here:
http://www.cdlib.org/services/collections/sharedprint/models.html
I'd be interested in learning about other policies that have been adopted in the community! Please reply on list.
Emily

I wanted to, but a number of our students are not comfortable at all
reading electronic books. For those, we acquire the print versions when
available.
We do things differently in the Upper Peninsula.
