[I asked the moderator to post this anonymously because the issue is
part of an active police investigation.]
We've had a possible book theft of numerous volumes. The materials are
all current textbooks and other expensive science and medical books. We
assume
that the books are being sold online somewhere. The police are involved.
My question to the list: If you have ever had anything like this
happen, what steps did you take to attempt to recover the materials,
were you ever successful, and were the criminals ever apprehended?
The procedural errors that occurred here for this to have happened are
being immediately corrected. It will not be
able to happen this way again. We would like to hear of any strategies
for the recovery of stolen items.
