Services Librarian
Assistant Professor, Electronic Resources/Collection Development/Instructional
Services Librarian, tenure track position, to start July 15, 2013. ALA approved
M.L.S. or equivalent degree required.
The Electronic Resources/Collection Development (ERCD) Librarian will assume
multiple leadership roles in the areas of Electronic Resource Management,
Collection Development, and Library Instruction.
The ERCD Librarian provides strategic leadership for activities related to the
selection, acquisition, and management of electronic monographic resources and
works collaboratively with other stakeholders to promote library related
electronic resources and technologies campus-wide. The successful candidate
will coordinate the acquisition, evaluation, and maintenance of electronic
resources and identify ways to make access more effective and efficient. The
ERCD Librarian will maintain usage statistics for licensed online resources and
will be responsible for resolving resource access problems. This position is
expected to develop and maintain library web pages and online resource portals
for electronic resources, including database descriptions, links, text and other
information to ensure consistent access points across the library’s collection.
The successful candidate will be expected to identify emerging trends and
technologies in electronic resource acquisitions and management that have the
potential for new and innovative library services.
As the Eckerd College Library continues to move to a digital environment, the
ERCD Librarian will administer and coordinate collection development by
providing leadership and strategic direction in the transition from print to
electronic acquisition models. This librarian will provide oversight of the
monographic budget. Experience with collection analysis and de-selection is
desired. Familiarity with emerging trends in scholarly communication, open
access models, and knowledge of academic publishing practices desired.
In regard to Instructional Services, the successful candidate will coordinate
with other librarians and classroom faculty to encourage and develop integration
of information literacy initiatives within both the general education program
and the majors and will serve as the liaison to the Creative Arts Collegium.
The ERCD Librarian will instruct patrons in the use of print and electronic
information sources within the context of an undergraduate liberal arts college
and provide general reference assistance (10-15 hours each week including one
evening) in person and via email, phone and chat. Periodic participation in the
College’s interdisciplinary; values oriented general education program is
required. Ability to work well with users and staff as a "team player" is very
important.
