Considerations for Collections Arrangement
As my library anticipates moving to its new building in the coming months, we
are discussing the arrangement of our physical materials collections in the new
space. Whereas most of the collection will be located in an in-house storage
and retrieval facility, a portion of the collection will be in traditional
stacks and other browsable areas, e.g. a reading room. We are soliciting
feedback from our users and are relying on circulation statistics in our
approach, but I am also curious to know what considerations were taken by those
of you who recently faced such a situation. And if you happen to know of
current publications that address best practices on this topic, I would greatly
appreciate the input.
Thank you,
