*Coordinator of Collections Job Announcement*

Auburn University, a land-grant institution with an enrollment of more 
than 24,000 students, invites applications for a twelve-month 
tenure-track position as Coordinator of Collections. The Auburn 
University Libraries belong to the Association of Research Libraries, 
house a collection of more than three million volumes, and administer a 
materials budget of $5.8 million. Auburn is a small, friendly university 
town located on the beautiful plains of eastern Alabama, about 50 miles 
east of Montgomery, Alabama's capital, and 115 miles southwest of 
Atlanta, Georgia. Other nearby cities are Birmingham, Alabama (110 miles 
northwest) and Columbus, Georgia (35 miles east).

The Coordinator of Collections is responsible for leading and managing a 
program to provide a 21st century research library collection advancing 
transformative teaching, learning, and research at the University. 
Exercising collaborative leadership, the Coordinator is responsible for 
advising library and university faculty, and creating processes, 
programs, and projects for the Auburn University's diverse and extensive 
print and licensed electronic collections. This position reports to the 
Associate Dean for Public Services/Head of Reference and Instruction 
Services.

*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:*Auburn University Libraries seek a 
knowledgeable and dynamic librarian to:

  * Provide leadership and coordination for collections-related projects
    and initiatives
  * Provide guidance to enhance collection managers' selection,
    collection development, and collection management capabilities and
    ensure that funds are well-managed
  * Serve as an interface between collection managers and other library
    departments and units
  * Work with the heads of Serials and Electronic Resources and
    Monographic Services to facilitate effective and appropriate use of
    all funds in the materials budget
  * Develop programmatic capacity to assess collections and usage of
    both print and electronic resources
  * Participate in data analysis to inform collections strategies and
    decisions
  * Provide effective and consistent communications within the Libraries
    and with campus constituencies regarding the Libraries' collections
  * As appropriate, lead library participation in the collection related
    activities of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries and
    represent the library for initiatives with the Association of
    Southeastern Research Libraries, the Association of Research
    Libraries, etc.
  * Participate as subject liaison with faculty and students in at least
    one academic unit, and select information resources to support their
    instructional and research needs
  * Provide reference services that may include some night and weekend hours

*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *

  * Master's degree in library or information science from an
    ALA-accredited program
  * Professional experience in building and managing library collections
    in print and electronic formats, including management of funds
  * Knowledge and understanding of issues, emerging practices,
    standards, and trends relating to collection development and
    management in academic libraries
  * Demonstrated ability to develop and manage library collections to
    align strategies with local priorities and evolving
    multi-institutional cooperative environments
  * Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to
    plan, coordinate, and implement effective projects
  * Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  * Strong and effective interpersonal, communication, computer and
    teaching skills
  * Adaptability and flexibility
  * Commitment to excellence
  * Commitment to professional development and service

*DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *

  * Three years professional experience in building and managing library
    collections in print and electronic formats, including management of
    funds
  * Evidence of potential to lead change
  * Demonstrated competency in analysis, budgeting and planning,
    assessment and evaluation of library collections
  * Experience with e-resource licensing and copyright issues
  * A record of scholarly, professional and research activity
  * Experience with reference, instruction and liaison

*SALARY/BENEFITS:*Minimum salary of $54,025 for a Librarian II, higher 
with experience, or appointment as a Librarian III. Rank will be 
commensurate with experience/qualifications. Benefits include 20 days 
vacation leave/12 days sick leave per year; participation in State 
Teachers' Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement 
plans available; health/life/disability insurance.
