Central Michigan University seeks an energetic Government Information 
Librarian to curate and develop the Libraries' extensive print and 
digital government documents collections as well as broadly promote the 
use of government information resources. This is a tenure-track, 
12-month faculty position with the rank of Assistant Professor. In order 
to obtain tenure, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in 
scholarly activity, publication, and professional service*. *

Celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, Central Michigan University 
is one of the nation's 100 largest public universities and the fourth 
largest in Michigan, with more than 21,000 students on its Mount 
Pleasant campus and another 7,000 enrolled online and at more than
50 locations across North America. CMU offers academic programs at the 
undergraduate, master's, specialist and doctoral levels, including 
several in key areas of strength and emerging interest. CMU also has 
established a College of Medicine, which is actively recruiting students 
for its inaugural class that will start in the summer of 2013.

*Position Description:*

Under the supervision of the Director of Information Services, the 
Government Information Librarian has primary responsibility for 
providing consultation, reference, collection management, and 
instructional services to faculty, students, and community users of 
State of Michigan and federal government information in all formats. 
Consults with technical services staff on bibliographic control 
practices and maintenance of government information as required by the 
Federal Depository Library Program.  Promotes government resources to 
the university community and beyond.

The Government Information Librarian also participates in general 
Reference Department activities, including bibliographic instruction, 
reference desk shifts, and research consultations. Teaches LIB 197, a 
one-credit information literacy course, and serves as a subject 
librarian for content areas determined in consultation with the 
Libraries' Director of Collection Development. Participates in CMU 
Libraries' programs and on committees. As a faculty member, engages in 
scholarly and/or creative activities and makes contributions toward 
university service.

*Minimum Requirements:*

Applicants must possess a master's degree from a library and information 
studies program accredited by the American Library Association, or its 
foreign equivalent. Experience providing general reference assistance 
(pre- or post-master's degree); demonstrated potential to provide 
effective library instruction; demonstrated knowledge of trends in 
library public services; experience working with government 
publications; fluency in library and educational technologies; strong, 
demonstrated commitment to public services; excellent interpersonal 
skills with the ability to function independently and in teams; ability 
to contribute to service and outreach within the university and 
community; willingness to work flexible schedule, including some 
evenings and weekends; potential to earn faculty tenure and promotion.

*Additional Desired Qualifications:*

Additional advanced degree or equivalent. Professional experience 
working in a U.S. government documents depository in an academic, 
public, or research library. Successful experience providing library 
instruction.  Knowledge of FDLP guidelines. Evidence of ability to 
promote use of government resources and create collaborative 
relationships with individuals and groups external to the library. 
Collection development experience. Working knowledge of Geographic 
Information Systems (GIS).
