The Library and Center for Knowledge Management at the University of
California, San Francisco (UCSF) is hiring two librarians -- a
Collection Development Librarian and an Education & Reference Librarian.
Brief descriptions follow.
*Collection Development Librarian*. We are seeking a dynamic,
technologically adept, service oriented librarian for the position of
Collection Development Librarian. Reporting to the Assistant Director
for Scholarly Communication & Collections, the successful candidate will
have a strong background in developing and managing a user-centered
library collection, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
and have an interest in providing reference and education services.
The incumbent manages the overall growth and development of the
collection, manages the collection budget and tracks expenditures
throughout the year, and works closely with staff in the Collection
Management department to negotiate licenses and evaluate and analyze
print and online resource usage. S/he is also responsible for leading
collection-based projects, the continuing transition to online journals,
the reduction of print subscriptions, and an aggressive movement to
e-book acquisitions, including a demand driven acquisitions model. The
Collection Development Librarian will be involved in many areas of the
Library, including providing library instruction and/or reference
services and will work closely with librarians in the
Education/Reference department.

*Education & Reference Librarian*. We are looking for a creative and
innovative librarian to serve as Education and Reference Librarian and
liaison to the School of Medicine. The successful candidate has a
passion for teaching and learning and for leveraging emerging
technologies to provide user-centered services.
This position works closely with faculty and staff in the UCSF School
of Medicine to design and deliver curricula in information retrieval and
management for evidence-based practice and scholarly research. The
position serves as a resource to students and faculty, providing
consultation services to researchers and learners in diverse areas,
including educational scholarship and clinical research. We seek an
individual who can thrive in UCSF's complex and dynamic environment,
which requires one to adapt quickly, apply new knowledge to solve
problems, and perform as part of a team.
