I received a rather strange phone call the other day from Herbert Richardson, editor-in-chief at Edwin Mellen Press. He left me a voicemail saying that my library had purchased large numbers of Mellen titles in the past but very few in recent years, and that he wanted to know why. He further expressed a willingness to donate $50,000 worth of books to our library.

I'm wondering whether others have fielded similar calls recently. Please respond to me privately, and I'll summarize for the list.

For the record: I'm very familiar with Edwin Mellen, its history, the quality of its publications, and the controversies that have arisen over the past couple of decades. In order to avoid legal trouble, I will say no more than that in this public forum and would recommend that other subscribers similarly refrain.
