The Mississippi State University Libraries has a position open for an
Assistant Professor to work in Acquisitions.This team leader will
collaborate with relevant personnel and units in order to provide
leadership and vision for the Libraries' Acquisitions Department. This
position reports to the Coordinator of Collection Development and
Special Projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Establishes staff and unit goals
for monographic acquisitions; supervises monograph acquisitions unit,
including the supervision and training of two staff members and student
workers in ordering, receiving and invoicing monographic materials;
manages and provides reports for departmental monographic allocations
annually; instructs library liaisons in use of Book Orders Online (BOO),
YPB's Gobi selection system and other goals for acquisitions; reconciles
various monograph acquisitions spreadsheets to ensure expenditures are
correctly charged to university accounts; works collaboratively with
other librarians to create solutions to workflow problems; assists
Coordinator of Collection Development and the Associate Dean for
Technical Services in collection development activities and meets
library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the
areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.
Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program;
with up to three (3) years of relevant library experience, including at
least one (1) year of experience with the management and access of
monographs resources in print and electronic formats; supervisory and
management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Academic Library experience, supervisory
experience; additional graduate degree; experience with the acquisition
modules of the SirsiDynix Workflows integrated library system; knowledge
of cataloging (print and electronic) and MARC formats and experience
with spreadsheets and databases, preferably, MS Excel and Access.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of current trends in the
acquisition, management and access of monographic resources, including
electronic; knowledge of acquisition modules of an integrated library
system; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective
interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and
written); ability to set and adjust priorities and work flows in a
dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to
realize departmental and library goals; ability to work independently as
well as part of a team and ability to carry out professional research
and service necessary to meet library and university requirements for
promotion and tenure.
