Position Summary:
The University of Arizona Libraries Research Services Team seeks a librarian to assume a role in assessing the needs of faculty, students and researchers, as well as identifying trends and changes in their curricular and research activities, and increasing campus awareness of library resources and services. The successful candidate manages information resources in all formats by developing requirements for publishers and vendors, evaluating and selecting resources and access to information, and assessing the effectiveness of our information resources in meeting the needs of the Libraries' customers; and provides in-depth reference consultations in assigned disciplines, and disciplinary or linguistic support to other library staff or services as needed.
All staff are charged with advancing the mission and vision of the Libraries through system-wide thinking and shared responsibility for successful teams. Individuals are responsible and accountable for problem solving and process improvement, and are empowered to make decisions at appropriate levels.
Librarians are expected to participate fully in the work of the UA Libraries to fulfill its mission and maintain excellent standards of scholarship and service in the profession.
As needed within the team and appropriate to the position of a professional librarian, the incumbent performs all work necessary to meet the changing needs of the Libraries' customers. As our customers' needs change, our work patterns change. As a result, team and Library work are periodically negotiated within the team, the end product being an agreement in writing defining individual's work as well as performance expectations.

THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA LIBRARIES MISSION STATEMENT:
The University of Arizona Libraries and Center for Creative Photography advance the University's mission through the active contributions of knowledgeable staff who choose cost effective methods of acquiring, curating, managing, and connecting customers to information services and resources and providing education in their use.
TEAM MISSION STATEMENT:
The Research Services Team provides as its highest priority needs assessment, environmental scanning and two-way communication with UA instructional and research units on behalf of all Library teams. The team effectively and efficiently implements assigned information resource management responsibilities for all subjects and all formats (except for Special Collections and the Center for Creative Photography) that enable the library to provide information resources that meet our primary customers' teaching, research and learning needs. The integration of network-level resources and local collections is fundamental. This team also manages in-depth reference and the Library-wide Disciplinary Knowledge Support Network.
Duties:
. Engage in direct communication with faculty, students and researchers, including conversations, interviews and facilitation of focus groups to learn about the needs, activities, and trends in their departments, programs, units, and professions. Compile and assess information received to identify curricular and research support opportunities and to inform the development and assessment of library services and resources. Communicate directly to relevant teams or individuals in the libraries the needs and opportunities matching their responsibilities.
. Communicate information to faculty, students and researchers about the Libraries' services and information resources that support their curriculum, learning and research.
. Identify, collect, analyze and apply relevant data, information and research studies to inform team and library strategic planning and development or improvement of services supporting research and teaching.
. Apply knowledge of customer information needs, information seeking behavior, and information resources in assigned disciplines to develop requirements for publisher and vendor products and criteria to inform selection of serials, databases, and other access to information.
. Develop and maintain knowledge and awareness of trends in publishing and use of information resources in assigned disciplinary areas.
. Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and publishers to learn about new products available to meet information needs, advocate for development or improvement of products to better meet customer needs, and enhance customer discovery of resources needed for their work
. Provide in-depth reference and research consultation to faculty, students and researchers and disciplinary or linguistic support to other library staff or services (e.g. instruction, interlibrary loan, digital projects, etc.) as needed
. As a member of the library profession, the Library Faculty Assembly and the general faculty of the University of Arizona, actively contribute to the library profession through research, service and scholarship, and engage in faculty governance of the Libraries and the University through service in the Library Faculty Assembly and on appropriate University committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
. Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
. Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills, specifically as it relates to interactions with faculty, students and researchers.
. Demonstrated experience assessing services and resources, including evaluating and selecting resources and access to information and assessing the effectiveness of information resources in meeting customer needs.
. Fluency with data analysis, including the ability to identify and analyze appropriate information related to the Libraries' students and faculty, the University, higher education as well as trends and policies in information discovery and delivery
. Broad knowledge of librarianship, including emerging trends in the discovery and delivery of information in the context of local, regional, national and international resource options.
. Demonstrated ability to engage in timely, effective management of information resources in all formats by developing requirements for publishers and vendors. Demonstrated knowledge of the information-seeking and use behaviors, structure of knowledge, primary research tools, publishers and vendors, and the research and teaching approaches in one or more broad disciplinary areas. All disciplinary areas will be considered but those with a background in the Arts or Humanities are encouraged to apply.
. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and accomplish assigned work and produce needed outputs in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
. Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities and assignments collaboratively as well as the ability to work independently in a team-based organization.
. Demonstrated ability to provide in-depth reference assistance.
. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a changing work environment.
. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse people and serve a diverse population to achieve institutional objectives.
. Working knowledge of a foreign language.
