A question to all Acquisition Librarians: Which vendors do you most
often use when purchasing books and media? At SUNY Geneseo, we have
been working on a system called GIST (the Getting It System Toolkit)
to streamline purchase requests and the acquisitions of materials
using the ILL request management software, ILLiad. Within ILLiad
there are web services called "addons", and we have developed one
called the "GIST Purchase Addon", which allows you to easily purchase
and shop for requested items without leaving the ILLiad client. You
can set your default vendor which will be displayed once you open the
tab. To price compare, you can simply choose from a drop down list of
available vendors. The addon will run a search and display the results
from that vendor's website. If you have an account, it will log you in
automatically so you can easily submit your order. At present, the
following vendors are available to search from within the GIST
Purchase Addon:
* Abe Books
* Addall
* Alibris
* Amazon
* Barnes and Noble
* Better World Books
* Book House
* Bookmooch
* Cassalini
* YBP's GOBI
* Midwest Tape
* PaperbackSwap
* SwapaCD
* SwapaDVD
We're curious about which vendors are used most frequently and might be
missing from this list. Please feel free to respond off-list to
