Head of Collection Management
Principal Role
Provides leadership and direction for librarians and faculty members on
collection development policies for all formats of resources.
Responsible for the ongoing assessment of collections and their use.
Responsible for selection-related work with vendors and for licensing
agreements. Responsible to manage library resource budget expenditures
and projections. Works with potential donors of library resources. This
position reports to the Dean and Associate Dean of the ILRC while
actively participating as a member of the ILRC Administrative Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Articulates a vision for all aspects of collection services in
relation to the mission and the strategic plans of the University and
the library
* Provides a high level of leadership and planning on issues related to
collection policy, collection analysis, print and electronic resources,
and resource sharing
* Provides assistance on issues relating to acquisitions, cataloging,
library systems, and preservation of resources
* Responsible for establishing policies, standards, and procedures for
setting priorities and for achieving the department’s goals
* Provides oversight and administrative support to the Collection Management
* Team in selecting and analyzing monographic, reference, and
multi-media information resources (includes electronic materials
including databases and large ebook collections)
* Provides oversight and administrative support to the Interlibrary Loan
Department which includes orchestration of purchase on demand activity
* Prepares and proposes an annual library collections budget based on
known and predicted inflation rates
* Provides bi-monthly fund expenditure updates to Dean of the ILRC and
tri-annual reports to individual university academic units
* Assesses collection and resource sharing practices to ensure that user
needs are being met and that financial resources and collaborative
partnerships are being maximized
* Manages print and electronic collections responsibly, balancing space,
preservation, and access priorities
* Works with potential donors and oversees evaluation of donated
resources to the library in tandem with the Archivist
* Monitors and establishes trends and best practices by participating in
both formal and informal professional development opportunities such as
conference attendance, reading, professional research and writing,
and/or completion of continuing education courses as approved by the
University
* Promotes the library’s collections in tandem with the Head Public
Services and Outreach
* Schedules regular departmental meetings and interdepartmental meetings
as needed
* Actively participates in the library’s leadership team
* Participates in Faculty Senate Committee meetings as committee
appointments require
Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills
Required
* MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent
* Commitment to Christian higher education and endorsement of Liberty
* University's doctrinal statement
* Experience in senior library leadership role, preferably collection
management
* Ability to lead and collaborate with diverse teams of librarians and staff
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Familiarity with evolving collection management strategies and methods
* Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
* Ability to effectively utilize and accurately analyze the results of
online collection comparison tools such as WorldCat Collection Analysis,
Serial
* Solutions Client Center, and other vendor-provided tools
* Ability to efficiently set and prioritize goals and tasks
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Commitment to professional development
