Coordinator of Acquisitions
The New York Public Library
Under the general direction of the Director of Collections and Circulation Operations,
manages the acquisitions staff at the Library Services Center and all aspects of the
acquisitions process of published materials for The New York Public Librarys circulating
and research collections.
Responsibilities include :
Orders, receives and funds accounting operations for monographs, serials, non-print, and
e-collections.
Maintains effective and cooperative relationships with materials vendors and evaluates
their performance to provide fulfillment and service feedback to Collections Strategy.
Analyzes workflow, establishes productivity standards, and utilizes metrics to capture
departmental activities.
Tracks and reports spending on circulating and research materials budgets in excess of
$20 million.
Oversees order management of more than 100,000 orders annually for over 1 million items
annually.
Contributes to the development of training.
Identifies vendor-based tools that facilitate materials acquisitions.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. ALA accredited Masters degree in Library and Information
Studies with relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education
and significant acquisitions leadership experience in a large, multi-site organization.
At least 5 years successfully demonstrated experience with library acquisitions
including familiarity with the publishing industry and trends in library acquisitions
practices in large, urban libraries.
At least 5 years successfully demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience.
Significant experience with budget management, experience with fund accounting
principles, and managing invoice processing workflows.
Demonstrated experience in managing vendor fulfillment and services, including those
pertaining to shelf-ready product delivery.
Successfully demonstrated experience managing complex projects particularly as they
relate to acquisitions, including coordinating vendor and staff activities, formulating
and documenting procedures, and staff training.
Experience in designing or updating workflows to incorporate new technologies or shifts
in acquisitions priorities.
Demonstrated experience in working with an integrated library system, statistical
analysis and MARC bibliographic conventions.
Understanding of typical collection development, cataloging, and processing practices of
a large library.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages preferred.
