JSTOR print holdings and ARL Statistics
From: "Davis, Sue" <susan.w.davis_at_Vanderbilt.Edu>

All,

I’m new to collection management and am seeking information on the following intertwined
topics. I would be grateful if those of you who have policies and experience would share
your wisdom with me.

1. We are considering removing our print volumes of JSTOR titles from prime storage
facility shelves and boxing them up, but keeping them in a sort of dim archive for the
near future. If we do this, the print volumes would be removed from our online catalog.
A concern was raised that this could negatively affect our ARL collection statistics and
standing. How has your institution dealt with this question?

2. A more general group of questions have arisen in our local discussions and I’d be glad
to know how your institution has responded. I would especially appreciate seeing your
policies and best practices documentation.

· How have you dealt with print duplicates of electronic holdings?

· How have you dealt with print duplicates of print holdings?

· What are your retention/storage policies?

· What are your reasons for deduping—repurposing of space or others?

Thanks in advance.
