Program Topic: Shifting Technical Services Priorities to Meet Evolving Needs of the
Institution
Sponsored by: Technical Services Managers in Academic Libraries Interest Group
Time: Saturday, January 16, 2010, 8-10 a.m.,
Location: BCEC (Boston Convention and Exhibit Center), Room 159

Library technical services have been undergoing radical changes and are facing new
challenges due to shrinking budgets, reduced positions, new E-formats and technology.
Shifting priorities and seeking innovative approaches and workflows are critical in
meeting these challenges. The discussion will cover topics and ideas for solutions to some
of the challenges we face.

Table topics include:

Aligning technical services with library initiatives

Applying new technologies to improve workflows

Leveraging cooperation across institutions

Retooling technical services staff to meet evolving needs

Collaborating with other departments within the library

Please join us and other Technical Services Managers in Academic Libraries as we discuss
these topics and approaches among small groups in a round-table setting.

Please note: we are the former “Medium Heads” with a new name. We welcome those who have
an interest in technical services management in all kinds of libraries.
