The University of North Carolina Wilmington is a member institution of
the University of North Carolina, and is nationally recognized for its
marine sciences teaching and research programs, and for its strengths in
arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing. The University is
situated on a beautiful arboretum campus located in an historic port
city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The University currently
enrolls approximately 12,000 students.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* This mid-level position provides an
opportunity for a librarian with experience in managing electronic
resources and serials to coordinate the acquisition, access and
management of print and electronic serials. Randall Library uses a
variety of commercial services to assist in serials management,
including Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s Millennium ILS (including CASE,
ERM and Web Bridge), EBSCO’s EBSCOnet, OCLC’s Connexion, and Swets’
Scholarly Stats. The successful candidate will have familiarity with the
serials industry, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and
excellent technology skills with openness to emerging technologies.
Major activities for this position include communicating with vendors
and publishers, supervising 2 full time staff, trouble-shooting access
problems, and cataloging and maintaining holdings for print and
electronic serials. The successful candidate must also possess a strong
commitment to user services, including some reference service. Active
participation in the development of library services is also required.
Library faculty at UNCW engage in scholarship resulting in publications,
conference presentations and other evidence of scholarly efforts.
Reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical and
Collection Services.
*REQUIREMENTS:* MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program. Must
have two years of experience working with electronic resources and
serials access and management, and one year of experience supervising at
least one full time employee. Requires cataloging skills, including
knowledge of AACR2, MARC21 format for bibliographic and holdings
records, LCSH, OCLC & CONSER guidelines. Must be proficient in using
advanced features of Excel or other spreadsheet software. Requires
excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication
skills and a strong service orientation. Preferred qualifications
include experience with the Millennium ILS and web page design.
*SALARY & BENEFITS:* Salary $48,000 or commensurate with labor market
for this position. 11-month contract with faculty status (lecturer,
non-tenure track). Generous benefits package, including 22 days of
