Many persons who provide collection development services in libraries may have
taken online LIS graduate courses in the 1990s from library and information
schools or programs in the United States or Canada. If you did so, I'd very much
appreciate your participation in an online survey which is part of my
dissertation research. The survey is open now.
While the formal invitation to participate is shown below, here is the short
version: The project website is www.lisonline1990s.com with a link to the
survey. Anyone who took at least one library and information science online
graduate course from an ALA-accredited school in the 1990s is invited to
participate. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please
contact me at cshelnutt_at_mail.twu.edu . Thank you for your time and
consideration, and you are welcome to share information about this study with
others who might be interested. Cherri Shelnutt

Invitation to Participate
My name is Cherri Shelnutt, and I am a PhD candidate in the School of Library
and Information Studies at Texas Woman's University. I would sincerely
appreciate your help as I conduct research for my dissertation on "An
Exploration of the Experiences of Pioneering Online Library and Information
Science Graduate Students: A Mixed Methods Study of Students in the 1990s."
Why is this study being done?
The purpose of this mixed methods study is to explore and describe the
experiences of students as they participated in LIS online graduate courses in
ALA-accredited programs and schools across the United States and Canada during
the 1990s. This study will contribute to a greater understanding of the student
experience in early LIS online graduate courses in the 1990s.
What is the target audience for this research?
Persons who took at least one LIS online graduate course in an ALA-accredited
program or school during the 1990s are invited to participate.
Has this research been approved?
This research has been granted "Exempt Status" by the Texas Woman's University
Institutional Review Board. This means that this research is: "involving
cognitive, diagnostic, aptitude, achievement tests, surveys, interview
procedures, or observation of public behavior" in which participants cannot be
identified, including "anonymous surveys."
Please note that there is a potential risk of loss of confidentiality in all
email, downloading, and internet transactions.
If you would like to read more about the study and participate, please go to the
project website at www.lisonline1990s.com which includes a link to the
SSL-enabled online survey. Once you click on the survey link, you will be able
to begin the questionnaire. When you have completed it, you may click 'Submit'
to submit the survey.
Thank you so much for your help in this research, and you are welcome to share
this invitation with other persons who might be interested in participating.
