ALA Chicago: Collection Management In Public Libraries
Discussion/Interest Group

Hello everyone,

The Collection Management In Public Libraries Discussion/Interest
Group sponsored by ALCTS and RUSA will meet at the Annual
Conference in Chicago on Monday, July 13, from 1:30 to 3:00 in
Chicago Hilton in the Lake Erie Room.

The discussion topics are:
1. Vendor services libraries are using to be more efficient and
to avoid adding more staff.
2. What are some innovations libraries are using to deliver
materials such as mailing holds/requests or partnering with NetFlix?
3. And, on everyone’s mind – what are the strategies being used
to cope with reduced materials budgets.

You are welcome to suggest a topic by email or just bring it to
the meeting because we always allow time at the end for some free
discussion on topics participants suggest the day of the meeting.

Matt Kish, the AV selector in my collection development office,
will fill in for me at this conference with co-chair Melissa
DeWild. We’re having severe budget issues right now here in Ohio
(seehttp://www.daytonmetrolibrary.org) , and my director
suggested I remain in Dayton at this time. Matt is a lot of fun
and always brings an interesting perspective. He used to work as
a manager of Barnes and Noble and Half Price Books. He does
great graphic novel programs for teens here since he works
part-time in a comic book store. He has done a great job of
improving our AV selection.

We are still open to other topics you may want to submit prior to
conference.
