DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The University of Kentucky
Libraries seeks a knowledgeable and innovative professional to
serve as the Head of Collection Management.
The Collection Management Librarian is responsible for monitoring
a collections budget of over $10,000,000 and providing leadership
for the Libraries’ collection management activities. The
Department Head hires, trains, and supervises the work of 2 FTE
support staff and 1 FTE librarian in the Financial Services,
Gifts-in-Kind, and Federal Depository Units. The Head of
Collection Management coordinates the collection activities of
academic liaisons to ensure coordination and continuity for
collections in all disciplines and formats.
The Head acts as an academic liaison to one or more selected
disciplines and serves on the Library’s Collection Advisory
Committee. The Head of Collection Management conducts collection
review and analysis processes and communicates collection issues
and procedures effectively to library users and staff.
The position reports to the Associate Dean for Collections and
Technical Services. The Head works closely with the Head of
Acquisitions, the Coordinator of Electronic Resources, the Head
of Access Records Management, and the academic liaisons to
identify, acquire and manage information in an increasingly
electronic environment. This individual will actively monitor
national trends, standards, and policies in collection
development and scholarly communication and represents the
Libraries in local, regional, and national forums/organizations
relating to collection management functions as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent. Experience with
collections management and/or acquisitions responsibilities in an
academic library environment. Supervisory experience. Excellent
oral and written communication skills and the ability to work
productively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and activity and
evidence of the ability to meet University of Kentucky
requirements for promotion and tenure required.
Preferred Education/Experience: Experience working in a research
university environment. Proficiency in assessment techniques and
activities, the selection and evaluation of electronic resources,
approval plans, and financial management. Knowledge of current
trends in digital library collections and scholarly communications.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Tenure track, faculty rank, 12 month appointment, 22
days annual leave. TIAA/CREF, and Fidelity retirement plans.

LIBRARY: Located in the beautiful bluegrass region of central
Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Libraries system includes
the main William T. Young Library, Medical Center Library, Law
Library, Special Collections & Digital Programs, Agricultural
Information Center, Little Fine Arts Library, Design Library,
Education Library, Engineering Library, and five science
libraries. Combined holdings total more than 3 million volumes.
The system has a faculty of 70 and a support and professional
staff of 100 and serves a student body of 28,000. The UK
Libraries use the Voyager integrated library system. Library
membership includes ARL, SOLINET, ASERL, and the Center for
Research Libraries, and is a regional depository for government
publications.
