Hi Gwen,

suggestions.

1. Make sure you have a good maintenance contract with the compact
shelving vendor/manufacturer. The shelving is pretty good normally, but
can be finicky.

2. Think carefully about the configuration of the shelves based on the
use of the collection. We had most of the "L"s in an education library
in compact shelving and were very glad that we could have 3 aisles open
simultaneously. If it had been configured as one range with only one
aisle open at a time, we would have been in trouble. Also make sure that
there are places close by for people to leave loose books/volumes and to
look at materials outside of the stack area.
