Coordinator for Social Sciences, Northwestern University Library.
Position Summary: Coordinates the academic liaison work of
approximately 9 subject specialists in social science cluster. Works
with disciplinary coordinators for humanities, science and
engineering, area studies, and general/interdisciplinary studies on
collections, selection, and liaison activities common to all clusters.
Additionally, as a member of Academic Liaison Services (ALS)
Department acts as the University Library’s liaison to faculty,
students, and other users in one or more social science disciplines.
Provides specialized instruction, research consultations, and
reference services in coordination with other public services
departments of the Library. Develops and maintains subject collections
in assigned areas of responsibility; specific subject responsibilities
to be determined based on Library needs and successful candidate’s
expertise. Manages allocated funds, endowment revenues, and gift
accounts in assigned subject areas, and monitors fund management for
selectors in the disciplinary cluster.
Qualifications: Required: Masters Degree in library and information
science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent combination
of education and relevant library experience. Background or experience
in a social science discipline. The successful candidate will have
excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to
work effectively with faculty, colleagues and other library users.
Preferred: A minimum of five years’ experience as a librarian at an
academic or other research library, with collection development
responsibilities, and reference experience. Reading knowledge of at
least one language other than English. A graduate degree in one or
more social science fields strongly preferred.

Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience.
