Subject: "Library Use Only" policy in academic libraries?
From: Deg Farrelly <deg.farrelly_at_asu.edu>
A work group at ASU Libraries is examining an existing "Library Use
Only" policy that restricts use of some monographs in its collections.
We are interesting in hearing if other academic libraries have such
a policy, and if so, how they apply it.
To clarify... we are NOT looking at items traditionally designated as,
and/or stored in: archives, special collections, journals, or
traditional Reference Collections. Nor are we looking at film, fiche,
or other media. Our interest at this time is only books / monographs,
shelved in the library stacks, but with a designation that the item
can be used only in the building in which it is shelved.
* Do you have such a policy in your library?
* If so, what criteria do you apply to establish that an item
should be treated as "Library Use Only"
* In the absence of circulation data, how do you collect stats on
use of the item?
* What provisions do you have for your users to have access to
such materials at other buildings or campuses of your institution?
*I will be happy to compile responses sent directly to me and report
back to this list.*
Thank you for your assistance.
