Have you looked at the NCES Academic Library Survey data?

   http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/libraries/datatools.asp

 From that page you can compare academic libraries.  Gives you lots of 
ways to slice and dice.  You can find similar institutions and see how 
much they spend on various materials.  You could then go back to OCLC 
and get data about library holdings.
