Head of Collection Development
The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is seeking a dynamic,
energetic, user oriented librarian to provide leadership, organization, and
management skills as Head of Collection Development. This position is
responsible for the effective administration of the Library’s collection
development program and reports to the Assistant Dean for Collections.
Establishes goals and work plans for Collection Development to meet Library
and institutional objectives. Manages the library materials budget.
Coordinates contract negotiations for library resources. Manages the
Library’s digital initiatives program, including implementation of an
institutional repository. Works with the Assistant Dean for Collections to
develop a scholarly communications education program for the University.
Participates on the Collections Management Team along with the Head of
Acquisitions, Head of Cataloging, and Head
of Archives and Special Collections.
Qualifications: Required – MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program. Five
years of successful and increasingly responsible professional experience in
collection management and development in an academic library setting.
Demonstrated successful management and supervisory experience. Previous
library budget planning experience. Preferred – Advanced degree in
bibliographic area of specialization. Excellent grounding in technical and
public service issues which affect collection development. Knowledge of at
least one foreign language. Knowledge of or experience with digital
libraries and/or institutional repositories. Professionally active in the
areas of responsibility of this position. Salary: Commensurate with
qualifications, $55,000 minimum for a 12-month appointment plus benefits
package.
